So sorry i haven't posted in a while. Things pile up. Last week was very interesting. I feel the gang and I have a mystery on our hands. It started last Wednesday. I was in my first period and my teacher hands out papers that talk about a mother's day fundraiser happening on Friday. Well that had me thinking about my mom all day and it got worse in PE when I wasn't paying attention and the volley ball hit me in the face. >:\ When I got in the van Ms. picks us up in it seemed everyone was upset. I hadn't noticed it all day. I was too soaked up in my own sorrow. Tony wasn't cracking jokes and flirting as usual, Mike wasn't talking smack about the teachers, Audree wasn't agreeing with Mike and worst...Jasmine...wasn't staring at Tony! :0 She was staring out the window with a droopy expression. Philip was doing his homework in the van, which was normal but he seemed on edge. I knew why Jasmine was upset. It was the parent night letter, it reminded her of mom as well. I could figure out why the other were upset though...We couldn't have been upset over the same things...could we? When we got home and changed I decided to find out for myself. I was going to go into Audree's room but the door was locked. I was about to knock when Mike touched my shoulder and shook his head.
"What's wrong with her?" I asked
"She always gets really upset when someone mentions parents or when the school hands out papers indicating them." Mike explained
"Oh, she got the mother's day thing too, huh?"
"Everyone did..."
"What'd you do with it?"
"I tossed it. I...I don't have a mom."
He tried to sound tough when he said that but, I knew it hurt him somewhere deep. It had to. Mike led me to the living room where everyone except Audree and Ms. were. Jasmine looked up when she saw me.
"Did you talk to Audree?" she asked
I shook my head sadly.
"She looked really bad when we got home."
"Yeah..." Mike said throwing himself on one of the couches
I took my normal position on the floor facing Jasmine.
"So..." Jasmine said "How did you guys end up with Ms. anyway?"
An awkward five minutes went by and Mike cleared his throat.
"My dad had home schooled me and he was never very...studecy. So he gave Ms. a call and she said I could go back to school here. Next thing I knew I had a plane ticket and I was out of there."
He tried to make it sound like he didn't care one way or another but, I knew how he really felt. Tony rubbed the back of his neck and agreed.
"Same here. My mom called Ms."
"Huh," Jasmine said curiously
"What about you Philip?" I asked looking up at him
He shifted uncomfortably when he realized everyone was staring at him.
"Uh..." he stuttered "M-my story is pretty similar to theirs...I guess."
"Guess?" Jasmine raised her eyebrow, she was now starting to get nosy
"Well, my parents were really smart, so they had no trouble home schooling me...It's just..."
I could tell he really wasn't interested in giving his back story. Or maybe something had gone wrong relationship wise with his parents and they shipped him here.
"What did your parents do for a living?" asked Jasmine, I wanted to punch her in the arm and say stop being so nosy but I didn't have the guts.
"My mother was a research associate and my dad was a scientist for this...company"
"Our parents were scientist too!" I smiled, now I was interested, Philip smiled back at me but I lowered my gaze after a moment
"So, how did our parents know to send us all here?" asked Tony, for once he was asking some non-flirty, educated questions! :O
"My parents said she was an old college from work." Philip stated
"All our parents couldn't have known her that way." Mike said finally interested in the conversation
"The likely hood of that being, is..." Philip looked like he was calculating in his head
"Unlikely," Jasmine chimed in trying to sound smart :P Philip half smile at her comment.
Was it possible all our parent knew Ms. because they worked together? And if they did work together didn't that mean our parents could have possibly known each other?
"What did your parents do Mike?" I turned to him
"My dad was a security guard fir this place and my mom worked there too as a super adviser."
"What place?"
"Uh...I wasn't sopost to know my parent would say. I was never really into it any way."
"My mom was a secretary and said she wasn't allowed to tell me where she worked." Tony said
"Odd, my parents said the same thing to me." Philip pondered
"Us too," Jasmine said, she was right. The reason I never really told much about my mom's business was because I didn't know! I'm not sure if she was fired or what happened. All I know is that in the end...it cost my fathers life. That's as much as mom would tell us.
"I wonder..." thought Philip
If only we had gotten the truth from our parents.
